ME5014 Methodology and History Writing Seminar
This course study various aspect of method in historical research such as the uses of sources material, books review, writing and analysis of histories. The course focuses on the nature of practices in history study.

ME5024 Seminar on Malaysian Historiography
This course discusses the development of Malaysian historical writing and its concepts of historiography especially the school of thought, philosophy and the historical sources.

ME5034 Seminar on Southeast Asian Historiography
This course discusses the development of Southeast Asian historical writing and its concepts of historiography especially the school of thought, philosophy and the historical sources.

ME5044 Seminar on Islamic Historiography
The purpose of this course is to discuss the development of Islamic historiography, and its schools of thought, philosophy and the historical sources related to it. The course focuses on the historiography of Madinah, Iraq and also including other important areas such as Egypt, Turkey and India. Topics of this course are covering the historiography ofal-Zuhri, Ibn Khaldun, al-Iji, Kafiyaji and Sakhawi.

ME5074 Seminar on Malaysian History
This course discusses various significant and interesting topics in Malaysian history. The course give emphasis to the usage and evaluation of main sources related to the topics. Each student will choose two title for the presentation in seminar.

ME5084 Seminar on Southeast Asian History
This course discusses various significant and interesting topics in Malaysian history. The course give emphasis to the usage and evaluation of main sources related to the topics. Each student will choose two title for the presentation in seminar.

ME5094 Masters Project Paper
Each student will choose title for Project Paper with the consent of their supervisors. After two semesters, the postgraduates are requested to submit their research in written form. This Project Paper is compulsory for the students of Program A.

ME5324 Comparative Economic History
The main focus of this course is to analyze the selected readings relating to the world economic developments since 1750. Emphasis is given to the explanation on the process, and unequal pattern of growth and development between the nations of the world.

ME5054 Selected Periods in Malaysian History
This course intends to choose a title or epoch from the Malaysian History for an indepth study, for example the Dutch Period, Institution of Raja.

ME5064 Selected Periods in Southeast Asian History
This course intends to choose a title or an epoch from the Southeast Asian History for an indepth study, for example the feudal era in Siam or Indochina in the 1950s.

ME5214 Local History in Malaysia
This course intends to choose the scope and the period of local studies in Malaysia. The course will stress on political, economic and social analysis and study, for example the Johore social history, and the Kelantan cultural history.

ME5224 Malaysian Economic History
This course studies the economic development of Malaysia since independence. The economic interaction between Malaysia and other nations in the world will also be discussed.

ME 5234 Social History of Malaysia
The course studies the social history of Malaysia since the early nineteeth century and the changes which took place especially in aspects such as education, culture, plural society, and their beliefs and thinking.

ME5244 Islam and Politics in Malaysia
This course expose the students to the developments of Islam as an institution which affects politics in Malaysia. The course focuses on the issues of Islam which influence the contemporary political climate in Malaysia.

ME5254 Selected Periods in East Asian History

This course exposes the students to an interpretative study of particular aspects in the history of East Asia especially China and Japan in the 19 and 20 century. The course focuses on important aspects of Chinese and Japanese history such as change in social and economic organization, modernization and the intellectual development.

ME5264 Selected Period in West Asian
History This course discusses on a special topic chosen from the period of Islamic eminence. This topic will be studied intensely. For example. The Islamic history during the period of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w and Khulafa' al-Rasyidin or the History of Islam in Spain.The important aspects emphasized are aqidah and civilization.

ME5274 Selected Periods in European History
This course studies particular aspects in European history based on specific periods which will be offered occasionally.

ME5284 History of Nationalism and Nation-State in Southeast Asia
This course studies some of the important aspects of the development of nationalism in Southeast Asia especially the process of nationalism in building nation-state in this region. Students will be required to carry out analysis on the effect of nationalism towards the relationship between Southeast Asia and the world powers.

ME5294 History of Plural Society and its Dilemma in Southeast Asia
The purpose of this study is to discuss the history of sosio-economic and politics of the plural society in Southeast Asia. Analytical studies will be carried out on the concepts used, dilemmas or issues which arises from the interaction of the majority and minority, the problems of national unity in Southeast Asian countries and other issues.

ME5304 Comparative Studies of Southeast Asian Political System

This course is an indepth study on the structure, function, philosophy and prominent dilemmas in the political system of Southeast Asia. The course will also concentrate on the difference of historical developments in Southeast Asia.

ME5314 History of International Relations in Southeast Asia
This course studies the relationship and cooperation between the Southeast Asian nations since the end of World War Two. The relations of Southeast Asia and the world powers will also be focused. The themes of this course are the issues of peace, security and foreign policy between the nations of the Southeast Asian region.

ME5334 Communism in Southeast Asia
This course discusses the development of communism and the movement of communists party in Southeast Asia in the period before and after World War Two. The main focus of this course is on the relations between nationalism and communism including the strategy and tactics of the communist parties in launching revolutions in Southeast Asia.

ME5344 History of Southeast Asian Nations (Except Malaysia)
This course analyzes the economic, social and political changes by focusing on nationalism, revolution, independence and the problems faced by one particular country of Southeast Asia. The country chosen for study in this course depends on the specialization of lecturers who conducts the course for each semester.

ME5354 Special Studies

This course intends to give oppurtunity to the Department to introduce new studies which is beneficial to the Masters program.

ME5364 Socio-Economic History of Islamic World
This course will discuss the socio-economic history of the Islamic World. The course will focus on the economic and social system of Islam. For example, system of land, tax, baituimal, Islamic society and non-Islamic society.

ME5374 Cultural History of Southeast Asia
This course concentrates on an indepth study of the cultural history of Southeast Asia which covers the period of prehistory, final phase of prehistory and protohistory. Attention will be given to the aspects such as genesis, human and cultural development in Southeast Asia.
